Each dog is special and likes its things in certain ways. Bulldogs are very popular dog breeds. They are adorable and have calm and courageous personalities. These cute dogs make affectionate friends. Bulldogs get along with kids very well and hence, they are any family’s best companion. Also, bulldogs night guard the house. It is hard not to fall in love with these beautiful creatures. Many people across the globe have a bulldog as their friend for life.

Needs of an English Bulldog

Comforting items have a positive effect on the bulldogs, especially where they sleep. To make life easier, owning a kennel is the best option for creating a comfortable cozy place for your Bulldog to call home. You can use the kennel for transportation of the dog or can use it to put it in a crate bed. We use a crate for bedtime and our English Bulldog loves it and prefers it. Here’s the crate we use (on Amazon) and we also use a cover for it just in case one of the kids gets up in the middle of the night a turns a light on, It won’t disturb her. However, to make things comfortable for your bulldog, you just need to choose the right kennel. The size of the kennel is crucial (we went a little large) so do not rely on eyeballing it. Take some preparatory steps to shop the best kennel for your pet dog:

Measure Your Bulldog

A kennel needs to fit the dog. A small kennel can make the dog very uncomfortable, while a huge kennel can make it feel unsafe. Hence, it is best to grab a measuring tape and measure your dog. You must measure the bulldog while standing. Take measurements of your dog from the nose to the length of its tail. To measure its height, make your dog sit and then measure. This is because some dogs are a bit shorter while standing. After taking measurements, add approximately 3-5 inches to the measurements. It gives the ideal kennel length and height.

If you have a puppy bulldog and you do not want to buy the kennel every time it grows, buy a kennel that is a perfect fit for an adult-size bulldog. Use dividers inside the kennel and reduce the space and size according to the need. You can remove the divider as the puppy grows. Here’s a good puppy kennel because the divided kennel may ultimately be too big for your full-size English Bulldog. We ended up getting a small one and a larger (perfect fit) kennel later and we’re glad we did because you really don’t know exactly how big your bulldog will be at full growth.

Play place: Kennels act as a play place. In the kennels, your bulldog can remain enclosed for a certain period of time to play. You can choose the size of the kennel accordingly so as to fit the dog spaciously for playtime. If you are considering buying an indoor kennel, then consider the size of your room. Indoor kennels are perfect for those owners who have limited space. If you want to limit the dog to a specific area of the house, then buy an indoor kennel. For outdoor kennels, size is not a big issue. It becomes a fun choice for the bulldog. They also prevent the dog from running off.

Kennels for smaller dogs: Kennels for the smallest dog measure approximately 24-30 inches. Depending on the manufacturer, the size varies, so if you are in need of a kennel belonging to a certain length and height, then you get a choice in a couple of inches. Kennels for the puppy bulldogs fit them perfectly. If you are not sure about the size of the kennel, then choose a larger size. If you do not want to put a divider in the kennel, then put a kennel mat or some small furniture meant for the dogs. It helps to take up the extra space. Here’s a variety of great kennels for Small Bulldogs (pricing found on Amazon)

Kennels for big dogs: The biggest end of the kennel size is the jumbo-sized or extra-large kennels. These are approximately 48-54 inches in length. They fit the oversized bulldogs that weigh between 90-110 pounds. English Bulldogs do get this big but it is good to have this as a reference.

Material of the kennel: For smaller dogs, soft-sided or plastic kennels are best. For medium to large dogs and big bulldogs, metal kennels are ideal. In the case of the non-metal kennels, damage may occur when the large dog decides to test its strength.

Popular Kennel Materials

Hard case: Manufacturers fabricate these kennels in either plastic or metal. They are the best options for those who need carriers to take their bulldog for an outdoor trip. They come in handy when you need to take the pet to the vet or when you decide to go on a vacation. Various models designs and options are available in this type of kennel. It ranges from large or small doors, extra handles, food, and water bowls, safety latches, and rugs.

Apart from metal and plastic, hard-case kennels are also made of wood. These are great if you do not intend to use them as traveling cases. The wooden kennels can fit right in your house and blend with your home’s interior décor. Add a comfy pillow and rugs for the bulldog in the wooden kennel to make it a perfect home. These can be used for airline trips or long drives.

Soft kennel: These kennels are manufactured using cloth. This is a very practical option, as you can use the kennel at home as a bed for the bulldogs. When you do not need the kennel, then fold it up. It is travel-friendly and you can carry it on long vacation trips. Soft kennels are easy to store away when not needed.

Kennels with food, water, and other facilities are best if you do not remain at home for a long time. You can put the required things for your bulldog in the kennel. Once you reach home, you can refill the kennel dishes.

Choose the kennel depending on your bulldog’s need. They should feel comfy in the kennel. If you stay away from the house for long, then buy a kennel with various facilities.

We didn’t need to use the soft case for our English Bulldog after about 3 months. Initially, it is a good “nice to have” when making the first set of vet trips for shots, etc. Here are a few that I found.
