A visit to the park is what every British bulldog wishes for but unfortunately can’t ask or express this to you since dogs cannot speak. Just like little children dogs are excited when they are taken out for a picnic and are overwhelmed with the exposure that comes with it especially if it is the first trip to the park due to this reason they tend to misbehave something which could bring you embarrassment or get yourself in the middle of a conflict with other park users or the park authority day that was initially intended to have fun could easily end up becoming a series of confrontations and exchange of bitter words. With this in mind, you have to be prepared for a successful trip with your bulldog and know what to expect.

What to expect in the dog park

Just like you several people also planned to take their dogs for an outing trip to the park so the chances of you having the park to yourself and your dog are one in a million. Expect the park to be full of people and dogs especially if it’s a weekend or a holiday when most people are not working and decide to spend quality time with their dogs.

A full dog park is likely to be noisy and full of many activities, this will be like a dog market or a dog show where different kinds of dogs and breeds come together.

Tips to enjoy the park with your dog

Since you now know what to expect in the park you can go and have all the fun you would wish your bulldog would get, but first, you need to know the following tips.

Tip one: Avoid overfeeding your dog

Just before taking your dog to the park, it is not advisable to give it a lot of food or liquid drinks like water. The dogs can’t hold their bladders like human beings do so they can literally relieve themselves anywhere especially if your dog is not trained in the etiquette of relieving themselves. This can really embarrass you especially when the dog decides to do it in the presence of people. You do not want everyone asking who the owner of the dog is or being ordered to clean up the mess.

Tip two: a leash or harness your dog

Leashing or harnessing your dog normally keeps it in check and in close proximity so you can keep a close watch and monitor its movement. It is very important to harness your bulldog especially if it is the kind of dog that keeps running all over chasing other dogs and barking at people. This will save you the scenario of having to run up and down chasing your dog all over trying to control it.

Tip three: train your dog

A dog is one of the most intelligent animals on the planet and can be trained to follow instructions and obey commands. In order to enjoy your picnic in the park with your dog teach it and train it on how to behave in the presence of other dogs, you can do this by talking to your dog using sounds and signs over a period of time streamlining its behavior and letting it understand your body language. This will be easier for you when you command or instruct it on something when visiting the dog park

Tip four: monitor your dog’s mating seasons and mood

Clearly, a dog on heat is not welcome in the park whatsoever this is simply because the dog will be a nuisance to other dogs and park users as it will draw unwanted attention. In order to enjoy your day at the park, it’s better to wait until the raging hormones on your bulldog have cooled off before walking into the park with it.

Tip five: carrying the pet corrector

If you see a situation where a fight is about to break out between dogs in the park use the pet corrector to keep off unwelcomed dogs or separate the ones in a fight. The pet corrector can be filled with compressed air which produces a noise when pressed which will interrupt unwanted behavior or startle the dogs to stop the fight. You can always defend your actions in case of a dispute if all your dog is in danger.

Tip six: leave your baby at home

Dog parks are specifically designed and intended for dogs and bringing your baby with you is not the right move as this may bring about incidences where your baby might be attacked or harmed by a stray dog because the baby stroller might attract the presence of curious and naughty dogs.

Following these simple rules can make your days at the park quite enjoyable and moments to always look for. Your Bulldog will also appreciate these park picnics and the bond between the two of you will grow stronger each day. Taking your dog out regularly could also improve its health tremendously as it will reduce the risk of gaining weight and being obese, psychologically the dog’s mental health will be improved as the dog has time to relax and run around enjoying life.
